Metrolinx: Beachway (Plains Rd.) Site Withdrawn, Walker's Ln. Preferred

Metrolinx confirmed that they are moving ahead with the Walkers Line site for a rail layover facility on the Lakeshore West Corridor as part of GO Expansion plans. The Beach site at Plains Road East and Maple Avenue in Ward 2 is no longer being considered and is therefore no longer part of the scope of the New Track and Facilities Transit Project Assessment Process (TPAP).

Metrolinx has begun the third round of public consultation for the GO Expansion program – an investment program intended to provide 15-minute, all-day rail service across the Greater Golden Horseshoe Region of Ontario. As part of the GO Expansion program, Metrolinx has identified various infrastructure required to achieve service level targets across the network, including a new layover/storage facility in the City of Burlington. any residents have followed this engagement and have been kept up to date with the assessment process through my newsletter. I extend an appreciation to all stakeholders, especially Metrolinx, for listening and collaborating through this process - ultimately delivering a win-win for Burlington and future riders of 15-minute two way GO Service. This has been an involved process and and important file that my office has been keeping residents informed on. The final decision will not be until January 2021. City Council will receive a Staff Report and deliver its formal comments on the review at the December 14th meeting.
