What matters
It’s about Making our communiTy Better.
I am always visiting every corner of our community - listening and responding. That’s how we make this a better place. After one term on Council, it’s amazing to see how new ideas and investments have strentghened the bonds of community, gave us a safer and healthier place to live, and shown how government works for you. I am proud of the investments and improvements made in Ward 2, we did this together.
Here’s what I’ve done
Local Planning:
A local plan for downtown - a better policy framework from the 2018 plan adopted by the previous Council
Removed the Major Transit Station Designation in the downtown in an effort to stop the over-development of our beloved and unique historic downtown.
Moved the Urban Growth Centre off of downtown - a clear signal that the scale and intensity of recent development activity in Burlington’s historic downtown was driven by misuse and reliance on the UGC and MTSA and was not sustainable given on-the-ground realities of physical and social infrastructure.
Unanimous support to eliminate the Provincial Land Tribunal at Halton Region
Secured $5m+ funding for Civic Square Renewal as an accessible, safe and inclusive gathering and event space where festivals and community programming can be offered to all residents and visitors
Care for CommunitY:
Veteran Square named so all residents have access to an area of significance to honour our veterans, peace keepers, and their families every day of the year.
First Designated Speed Limit Area of 40km/hr - Maple/Lakeshore/Brant/Richmond + additional areas city-wide
First Rainbow Crosswalk as an important statement of welcome and inclusion
Healthy Active Living
Completion of Elgin Promenade - final phase connecting downtown to the Centennial Trail
Three Pedestrian Crosswalks on Brant Street - putting people before cars
Continued work on Green Street Windows to the Lake - connecting Burlington residents to Lake Ontario.
Leighland Park Renewal (2023) with Community Input from first ever Councillor hosted Movie Night in the Park
Queensway Park Renewal (2023) in final design stage with input from residents
Central Park Accessible Swing
Safer use of Spencer Smith Park through ambassador program
Supporting local business
Delivered responsive 90 min waived parking fee downtown to support small local business recovery
Future of hospitality Patio Program to deliver vibrant path to recovery
Attended opening & recognition event for many local businesses and hosted local business round tables
